All of the search engines are trying to find the best sites on the internet every time that you do a search. The best way for these search engines to find out what site is the best and which site is next best is to look at a few factors to do with relevance. The main factor that I want to hit on here is link popularity. Link popularity is how popular a page is compared to other pages in it’s industry.
Lets say that you are looking for a Realtor in Dallas and you do a search in Google. One of the determining factors setting Linda and Fred Lanham on the first page of results compared to say, Joan Parma on the seventh page of results would be link popularity or the number of sites that link back to that website. If you look at the two sites they are both professional looking and offer a lot of great info but in the back ground you would see a slightly different story. The Linda and Fred’s site has 74 sites linking to it while Joan only has 15 sites linking to her site.
So how do you get more incoming links to your site? I am glad that you asked that question as there are a lot of ways for a Realtor to get a lot of sites to link back to theirs and raise their stature in Google.
First of all go and add your site to as many directories as you can. This is great as you will not only have incoming links but you will also hopefully get a lot of customers finding your name and site and therefore finding you. One of the things that you will have to do is put a link back to your site from that directory and quite possibly you can have a page on your site for just this reason, this way you will also be creating a directory of your own. To start with you can add yourself to the following directories:

Reals.com
Americas real estate directory
The really beautiful Agent Preview.com
Real Estate ABC - which has a free directory (you should never have to pay for any directory)
Directory Real Estate
LinkRE.com

By serching through the search engines you will probably be able to find even more.
One thing to be aware of is the fact that these links are two way links and most search engines although they like these links and will pay more attention to your site because of these links do not think these are the best links to have. The search engines would like even more to see that you have one way links. That is links from websites within your industry that do not have a link back to your site. I will be dealing with this in another blog article but just think about who could put a link on their page or weblog to you that you would not have to return the favor for.
